Hot hot heat: a much needed makeup routine for summer!

Hello, summer is officially here and while I’d love to be at the beach every single day, with only sunblock and an incessant smile on my face, I still have quite a lot of work here in the city (thus the lack of posts).Β  I love most of the makeup I have but I have been realizing that I have never quite gravitated towards matte makeup (except for lipsticks, of course)—and that turned out to be quite problematic once the summer heat set in.

Dewy makeup + Manila summer heat = a very oily face

And so I was blessed by the makeup gods when I stumbled onto Wayne Goss’ new makeup routine trick, which is now a staple in my life.

You can watch the video (which I recommend more, because he explains it waaay better than I ever will) or you can read down below if, well, you’re not in the mood to watch videos now, or maybe your net is slow (like mine most days).

Now this trick may seem counter intuitive, but when Wayne Goss says it works, I have to believe him.

The trick is to work this way:

Moisturizer/Primer –> Luminizer –> Loose Powder (Translucent if you want less coverage, pigmented if you want more coverage) –> then Foundation! –>then concealer –> then the other stuff,Β  your cheeks, your eyes, your lips.

Very simple? Yes! I found that I needed less foundation when I did this and that it spread smoothly on my face–even if I pat on loose powder beforehand. Because we put on luminizer beneath the powder and foundation, I had on a really nice (but not in any way oily) glow. More importantly, my foundation did last a really long time!

DSCN4500DSCN4502It isn’t obvious here, but I was really sweating! It was so hot that day and I had to set up and go and do live tattooing at an event–in a very dim lit and hot bar here in Makati. At the end of the night, I expected myself to look really haggard but I was surprised to see that I looked basically the same in the photos above.

Face Products I used, and in order:

The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream + Palladio Herbal Foundation Primer + Too Cool For School Dinoplatz Pearl Bay Invasion in #2 Baby Pink Clam + Essence Fix & Matte Translucent Loose Powder (applied with an EcoTools Powder brush) + Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation in OC-2 + Ben Nye Media Pro HD SK-1 Cover-all Concealer Wheel

  1. I found out about this too recently and while I was skeptical at first, I tried it out during the weekend and omg my makeup didnt budge! The heat was intense during the weekend but no caking at all. I tried this with bb cream too for lighter coverage and it worked just as great. Did you set your foundation with powder again or left it as it is?

    • Yay I’m glad it worked well for you too! πŸ™‚ The first time I tried this I set it with powder bec I was going to a gruelling event, the second time I didn’t na and it was awesome parin! πŸ™‚

  2. Saw the video too and ohmygoodness it’s life-changing! I powdered pa the first time after applying foundation because I was skeptical, but the next few times I stuck to powdering my t zone na lang. He posted it just in time for summer pa! πŸ™‚

  3. I watched this video last night and I have yet to try out. I thought I’m going to be stuck with using just sunblock topped with powder foundation for the whole summer.
